Mythos...a Must at Universal Orlando!

I was inspired to write another review of Mythos.  I confess, I've been there many times, and to see my last one, click HERE.  But, why not refresh the photos?

First, the entrance. I mean, it's cool.  That can't even be disputed.

This restaurant is always busy, so reservations are highly recommended, I have witnessed people getting turned away.

This restaurant is technically only open at lunch, but we've gotten reservations as late as 4/5 PM. Reservations are easy to make, ask your Travel Time agent to handle it for you, or go HERE.   Reservations can be made up to 30 days in advance, it is one of the few Universal restaurants that you should plan ahead if you want to attend.

Once inside, the little waiting area is blissfully cool, air condition blasts full force, and they have flavored cold water in a dispenser for the pleasure of their hot guests.

We were seated in one of their neat booths.

I ordered the Tuscan Tomato Soup. It was DELICIOUS.  It might seem an odd choice on a hot day, but this restaurant is sufficiently cooled to make a hot meal enjoyable. At $4.99 I thought it was an excellent value.

I need to mention the condiments.  The ketchup can't come out in a tacky bottle, oh NO!  It comes out on a cute little fancy plate with individual servings. And the butter! One of the cutest things at Mythos is the stamped butter.  The bread is crunchy on the outside, and soft and warm on the inside. Perfect with the soup!

The Pressed Porchetta Panini was good, although I'm not sure it was good enough for me to choose it again next time.  Pork, apple butter, fontina cheese, red onions and arugula served with fries for $12.99.

The Mythos Signature Hamburger is topped with feta-olive aoli, $15.99.

The Crispy Crab Cake Sandwich, $12.99, has a house made remoulade sauce and is really a very good value.  It comes with potato salad (I substituted fries) and a tomato watermelon salad (not a huge fan but I don't like tomatoes).

The restaurant in general has a really great atmosphere, and for a restaurant with this type of food quality, service, and ambiance, it is surprisingly affordable!  Try it!

Cowfish at Universal Orlando Citywalk, try Burgushi!

Here are some updated photos of Cowfish!  Our original blog can be found HERE

Burgushi, a cross between a burger (ish) and sushi, is quite fun!  I tried the All American, which is the most popular choice, and it was pretty great!

Tried and True Butterbeer Recipe...It's not like Diagon Alley but it's close!

If you are reading this, most likely you are dreaming about visiting Universal's Harry Potter delights, or you have returned and have trip melancholy.

I have the latter.  I recently returned from a wonderful trip to Universal Orlando. I had several glorious days walking around drinking Butterbeer in different forms, watching my 17 year old Witch cast spells with her similarly inclined magical friend after they chose their interactive wands, and lounging around the pool at the Hard Rock.

I'm home now.  And I wanted Butterbeer.

So I searched for recipes. Some of them are really detailed...boiling things, putting a dozen ingredients together. Not only am I impatient, but I also didn't want a grocery cart full of stuff just to make this treat.  So I took a basic recipe, threw it together in my way, and hit gold the very first attempt.

There are two kinds of non alcoholic Butterbeer at Universal...frozen and non. I prefer the non.  This recipe sort of mixes the two. Still drinkable, but a little colder and more solid than the non frozen at the parks.

Needed:

  • Vanilla Ice Cream (I used French Vanilla)
  • Cream soda (not diet, come on now)
  • Butterscotch topping (preferably in a squeeze bottle)
  • Blender
  • Straw (preferably a fat one)
  • Optional: Cool Whip or whipped cream
First, I microwaved the ice cream tub for 20 seconds to soften.  I used a tall fancy glass from Portofino Bay (why, oh why didn't I spring for a Hard Rock keeper cup on my trip, sniff).  Put three scoops of ice cream and about a cup of cream soda in a blender (this is how much of a slacker I am, I just tossed in the cream soda willy nilly, but I used to bartend and I'm often incapable of changing old habits).  Blend on the lowest level until most of the ice cream is blended, a few yummy lumps are acceptable.

Poor into cup, top with Cool Whip and swirly whirlies of butterscotch topping and THAT IS IT.  Drink up, Muggle.

The Cowfish at Universal Orlando Citywalk...Sushi and burgers?

NEW PHOTOS 5/2017 available HERE

What an odd concept.  Sushi and burgers, and truly, along with outrageous drinks, burgers and sushi are what are on the menu at The Cowfish.  Reservations are recommended if you know when you want to go.  With no reservations, during certain peak times you'll have to wait a bit.

It is a large restaurant that is funky and cool, and was our choice to celebrate a 21st birthday before heading to Halloween Horror Nights.  We decided to sit out on the covered outdoor area, and they gave us a great table that overlooked Citywalk.

The service was just okay.  Once we were sat it took a while for someone to take our drink orders, and a couple different people came over, saying our server was busy and they would help us, but then they'd never return.  We finally had drinks, and throughout the meal the service wasn't exactly bad, but it was not good either.  The server was friendly but mainly absent, and they were the only restaurant on the whole duration of our trip (Universal and Disney) that did nothing to recognize the birthday girl, despite it being her actual birthday, us telling them when we checked in for our reservation, her wearing a Universal birthday button and an "I'm 21 Today" shirt.

The drinks were both innovative and delicious.

Buffalos and Bacon

The prices seem to be an average of around $14 to $15 per entree, which wasn't out of line.  The appetizers we ordered were very tasty.

Here are our entrees.  All of the food was enjoyed, and the sweet potato fries were my favorite part.  Each member of our party enjoyed their food, and we had no complaints.

Bento Boxes

In summary, it is a fun restaurant to try, but I wouldn't choose it as a place to celebrate again, as they were lackluster about it.
